Simon Nayyar

Simon Nayyar is a second generation British Indian of Punjabi heritage, involved in the Conservative Party and active in business.

Simon has been involved in the Conservative Party for 30 years.  He was the Parliamentary Candidate for Hackney South & Shoreditch in 2010, from where, at his social action project in Clapton, David Cameron launched the 2010 general election Short Campaign. In 2015, Simon was the Conservative Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Feltham & Heston, where he was actively supported by Theresa May in developing really effective community engagement with British Indian families in his then prospective seat.

Simon helped to launch Conservative Friends of India, under David Cameron and subsequently served on its Board. He is involved in and passionate about the important role that diversity has to play in the Party. He has served on the Board of Conservative Friends of International Development since 2010, and has been to Rwanda as a member of Project Umubano on three occasions.

Simon runs his own corporate and financial communications agency which has offices in London, Brussels and Mauritius. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a City liveryman.

Mayuri Parmar Amin

Director Policy
Mayuri Parmar Amin is the founder of Parmar Advisory – a business and communications consultancy. She was appointed Director of Conservative Friends of India in 2013, helping to connect the Indian diaspora to the Conservative party and contributing to their majority win at the 2015 General Election. As Deputy Head of the Diverse Communities Unit at Policy Exchange, a leading centre-right think tank, she also focussed her research on diversity and equality in the UK.

Jay Singh-Sohal

Jagjeet “Jay” Singh-Sohal is a communications specialist with a background in journalism and filmmaking. He now runs his own consultancy business and is a volunteer with several charities and organisations.

A party member and activist since the age of 18, he is a former Chairman of Brunel Conservatives and now a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

Deep Rajah Dhir

As an experienced broadcaster and media professional . As Head of Current Affairs at Lyca Radio, his role in producing one of the radios most popular shows, also includes interviewing guests from all walks, from the Royals, leading Parliamentarians, actors and artistes.  Prior to Heading Current Affairs at Lyca, Deep was also the Producer and Presenter at Dilse Radio, where he was the producer and presenter of the Talk Back show, his live guests  include Theresa May MP – The current Prime Minister , (Former)  Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP, Minister for DFID, The Right Hon. Douglas Swayne MP, CEO’s, NSPCC, RSPCA, MoneyGram, and various Medical Doctors for the ‘Medical’ Monday slot.

Cllr Aarien-Uday Areti

Aarien was the first Indian to be elected as a Councillor for Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea in May 2018. An MBA graduate and CEO of Niqauo ltd which he co-founded with his friends. He was recognised as a “35 under 35 Young Leader in India-UK Relations” by India Inc. Following his representation in BRICS youth summit, he founded BRICS Europe to develop BRICS nations policies and governance.

Aarien held secretary positions during his college days and is now a fellow of Centre for Entrepreneurship. As a business secretary of UK Telugu association, he organises business and cultural events in the parliament.

Cllr. Gurjit Bains

Director South
Gurjit works across the housing, planning and development sectors on local and devolved levels - including for Taylor Wimpey, Sav Group, Imara Group, Peabody and BFI.

Prior to joining Newington, Gurjit worked for two Conservative MPs and on the EU Referendum for the Vote Leave campaign advising on outreach strategies. She has also been a Campaign Manager in two constituencies for both local and national elections and has a degree in Law from the University of Buckingham. Gurjit currently serves as a Conservative Councillor for Gravesham Borough Council and holds a Cabinet portfolio for Community Development.

Meera Sonecha

Director Midlands
Meera read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick. Following university she worked in the House of Commons for several years as Sir Edward Garnier’s Parliamentary Assistant and was the Executive Officer of Conservative Friends of India for one year. She was also on the core team of the Andy Street campaign, who is now the Mayor of the West Midlands.
