CFI Reception at CPC25

The Conservative Friends of India (CF India) hosted a landmark reception with over 300 attendees at this year’s Conservative Party Conference, bringing together senior ministers, Party leaders, business figures, and community representatives to celebrate the growing strength of the UK–India relationship.

The event was co-chaired by Dr Koolesh Shah, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Co-Chair of CF India, alongside The Rt Hon Sir Oliver Dowden MP, former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The reception was attended by key guests of honour, including The Rt Hon Sir James Cleverly MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Kevin Hollinrake MP, Party Chairman. Their presence and remarks underscored the importance the Conservative Party places on one of its largest affiliate groups.

Dr Shah, reflecting on CF India’s mission, said:

“It is an honour to host colleagues and friends who champion the UK–India partnership. The Conservative Party’s commitment, demonstrated by the attendance and support of our Party Chairman Kevin Hollinrake and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, shows just how central CF India is to this vision.”

Sir Oliver paid tribute to the leadership of James Cleverly, who during his tenure as Foreign Secretary made significant visits to India, and to Dame Priti Patel, for her “unwavering dedication to strengthening the ties between the UK and India.” He also welcomed Party Chairman Kevin Hollinrake and Bob Blackman MP, noting their “energy, vision, and commitment to deepening engagement with the British Indian community.”

“With leaders like Kevin, James, Bob and Priti supporting this mission, and with Dr Koolesh Shah and the CF India team providing outstanding leadership, I have every confidence that Conservative Friends of India will continue to grow in strength and reach,” Sir Oliver added.

James Cleverly highlighted the historic importance of the UK–India Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a milestone for investment, jobs and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Kevin Hollinrake emphasised the Party’s pride in CF India as a vehicle for strengthening engagement with British Indians, and congratulated the team for organising an event of such scale and impact.

“Conservative Friends of India has been an incredible force within our Party, strengthening our connection with British Indian communities across the country. From Leicester to Harrow, these vibrant communities represent some of our greatest Conservative strongholds. CF India’s passion, energy, and commitment will be absolutely vital as we head into next year’s local elections.” Said Kevin Hollinrake MP, Chairman of the Conservative Party

The evening also showcased the ongoing support of CF India’s key sponsors, including the London Town Group, the Indian High Commission, and the UK India Business Council, all of whom were recognised for their continued partnership and commitment to deepening UK–India ties.

Attendees enjoyed speeches from distinguished leaders, discussions on trade, culture, and community, and warm hospitality featuring authentic Indian cuisine. The event celebrated the UK–Indian community’s vibrancy and contribution to British society, while reinforcing CF India’s role in fostering connections at the heart of the Party’s international engagement.

Looking ahead, CF India announced plans for a Grand Diwali Celebration in Leicester on Thursday 20 November, aimed at further deepening community engagement and celebrating the cultural and economic ties between Britain and India.

“With the Party Chairman and senior ministers actively supporting our work, CF India is well placed to continue growing and delivering meaningful impact for our communities and the UK–India partnership,” Dr Shah concluded.
